Vilnius is known as the city of Low Flying Angels. They are on rooftops, benches, window sills and parks. You can see them on the airport welcoming every visitor or siting on street signs to cheer pedestrians. The city mayor gives them as the gift to every newborn. Thousands fly all over spreading joy and love. You can also bring one for a safe journey.
As an initiative to celebrate eight decades of Lithuanian heritage and culture in California, the Gathering of Angels mural will connect Vilnius with another city of Angels, Los Angeles. It will also be our tribute to the many guardian angels who keep us protected and safe during the Corona pandemic. In Psalm 34, „God sends angels to loyal children in order to rescue them from danger. His angels will lift us and keep us from harm.”
Parishioner and Lithuanian artist Rolandas Dabrukas has offered to paint a mural of different angels on our Cultural Center parking lot wall. There will be a sacred space where we can meet and share the traditions of our homeland, stories how our forefathers survived many wars and plagues, endured years of oppression, fought for freedom, and worked for better lives in America. We will also exchange experiences how we survived the uncertainty, anxiety and fear of lockdown. We will gather as one children of God with the angels, who are always looking after us through time and history.
School children will be excited to take pictures of their guardian angels and post them on social media. We will tell the world that the spirit of faith, family and community is alive here at St. Casimir’s when we return to the new normal.
Please help us make this divine and beautiful project into reality. We invite you to sponsor your guardian angel to be included in the mural, by sending a donation to:
