Christmas message from Msgr. Edmond J. Putrimas

This year we approach the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus in totally unexpected ways – in isolation or quarantine and under uncertain conditions. For many of us this is the first Christmas when we cannot visit with close family and friends; we cannot gather around a communal table to share a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day meal; we cannot gather by the Christmas tree to personally share gifts nor receive them. In this new normal, caused by a worldwide pandemic, let us find safe ways to share heartfelt Christmas greetings with one another and to celebrate the spirit of the birth of the Christ Child.

Although the Covid-19 pandemic has brought forth many challenges for us, people have found ways to serve others and to form special bonds with those around them. The virus is everywhere, but we can defeat it with our joint efforts to spread love. Let us pray for strength from our Lord for all who are ill and for those who nurse and heal the sick. May they feel his Divine Mercy. Let us pray for all who will be alone during this time; that they may experience the joy of Christ’s birth through personal prayer or by joining others on the internet to watch streamed Masses and listen to Christmas hymns. May we welcome the newborn Jesus into our homes, just as Mary and Joseph did when they returned with him to Galilea to their hometown, Nazareth.

I pray that Lithuanians around the world, that they may cherish their Lithuanian religious traditions and values in their hearts, wherever they may be. Through our prayers of worship, let us thank God for all He has given us. As much as we are able, let us continue to be Children of the Light (Jn 12, 36). I wish you a peaceful Christmas; blessings and good health in 2021.

Viešpaties Jėzaus gimimo šventę šiemet pasitinkame neįprastai – izoliacijoje, karantine, nežinomybės sąlygomis. Daugeliui mūsų tai pirmos tokios Kalėdos, kai negalime lankyti artimųjų, susėsti prie bendro stalo, rinkti ir įteikti dovanas, tačiau tai tegul mūsų nestabdo nuo širdingų sveikinimų, širdingų palaikymo žodžių bent nuotoliniu būdu.

Nors pandemija atnešė daug iššūkių, tačiau kartu ir daug galimybių patarnauti kitiems, susitelkti, patirti vienybę. Visi susiduriame su nenuspėjamu virusu ir jį įveikti galime tik bendromis pastangomis. Todėl visiems sergantiems ir visiems slaugantiems bei gydantiems norisi linkėti stiprybės Viešpatyje ir pasitikėjimo begaliniu Jo gailestingumu. Taip pat ir visiems, šventas Kalėdas pasitinkantiems vienumoje ar atskirtyje dėl viruso grėsmės, linkiu patirti Jėzaus gimimo džiaugsmą per maldą, bent internetu ar radijo bangomis klausomas šventąsias Mišias, dvasinę komuniją, šventines giesmes bei tradicijas. Priimkime į savo namus užgimusį Jėzų, kaip kadaise Marija ir Juozapas – grįžę į Galilėją, į savo miestą Nazaretą.

Lietuviai visame pasaulyje, kurie dėl kelionių apribojimų šiuo sunkiu metu negali sugrįžti namo – kad ir kur esame, puoselėkime religines ir tautines vertybes savo šeimose ir širdyse. Tegul Kūčių ir Kalėdų stalą puošia šventiški valgiai, tegul už tėvynę ir artimuosius skamba malda, kuri mus vienija. Perduokime gražias lietuvių šventines tradicijas ir patiems mažiausiems bei mūsų jaunimui. Ir kiek tik galime, sąmoningai rinkimės pirmiausiai dėkoti Dievui už tai, ką turime, kuo Jis mus apdovanojo. Kiek jėgos leidžia, rinkimės būti šviesos vaikais (Jn 12, 36).  

Kalėdų laike minime ir Šventosios Šeimos šventę. Jai skirtoje Evangelijoje apie Jėzų pasakyta: „Vaikelis augo ir stiprėjo; jis darėsi pilnas išminties, ir Dievo malonė buvo su juo” (Lkč, ė0). Kartu tai ir palinkėjimas visiems mums, mūsų šeimoms ir namams: siekti išminties, artumo su Dievu, ir pasitikėti, kad jis prirengė mums išgelbėjimą.

Šiltų, jaukių, ramių švenčių. Sveikas, Jėzau, gimusis! Palaima telydi jus 2021-aisiais.

Christmas message from pastor Tomas Karanauskas

During these times of great difficulties and uncertainties, let us listen to the message of the angel to Mary “do not be afraid”.  Like her, let us put our trust in the Lord and be not troubled. The coming of Christ will be our salvation and he will bring us love, peace and healing.

To obtain, God’s favor we have to follow the example of Noah who spent 150 days of lockdown in the ark. It must have given him the opportunity to bond with his children and family. Together with the animals, he must have appreciated the bounty of creation. The family must have praised God unceasingly and prayed together. Let us remain righteous and blameless so that we can walk with God when he delivers us from this unexpected pandemic. We pray for forgiveness and mercy. God will never abandon his people.

During this Christmas season, let us bring our family together in simple celebration as we thank the Lord for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. There may not be abundant gifts or elegant dinners due to stay home orders, but what is meaningful is the presence of simple joy with our loved ones. This is the essence of Christmas.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers and continuing support. You are in my prayers as well and may we soon gather again in celebration at the parish. A blessed, merry and safe Christmas!

Kalėdiniai sveikinimai nuo kunigo Tomo Karanausko

Brangūs parapijiečiai,

Šiais metais Kalėdos ateina nepaisant to, kad pasaulį drebina skaudžios nelaimės. Per pirmąsias Kalėdas Dievas dovanojo mums neįkainojamą dovaną – savo sūnų, kuris parodo mums, kaip mylėti Dievą ir vienas kitą. Tad švęskime Jėzaus gimimą, statydami Kalėdines eglutes ir išpuošdami namus, giedodami giesmes, siuntinėdami vienas kitam sveikinimus, teikdami dovanas ir skirdami laiko tiems, kuriuos mylime. Šią nuostabią dieną aš meldžiu Dievą, kad suteiktų Jums visko, ko trokštate, ir linkiu nuostabių šv. Kalėdų!
