Starlink by SpaceX to set up shop in Lithuania

06/04/2021

Starlink, a satellite internet project by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has registered a company in Lithuania on June 2, the Baltic News Service reported on Friday. According to data from the Lithuanian office of registers, Starlink Lithuania will be headed by Lauren Ashley Dreyer.  The information was confirmed to LRT.lt by Lithuanian Transport Minister Marius Skuodis.

“I can confirm that actions are being done so that Starlink could begin offering services in Lithuania,” Skuodis said, adding that he organised a meeting with the company “to invite them to start offering their services in Lithuania as soon as possible”. Starlink would provide “innovative internet services”, according to Skuodis.

“Our interest is very simple, so that consumers in Lithuania would have a wide spectrum of different services and would have as much possibility as possible for different choices,” said the minister. “We would also want for such services [satellite internet] to appear in Lithuania as early as possible,” he added.

Starlink is a satellite constellation being constructed by Musk’s SpaceX to provide global satellite internet access.
