A meadow of forget-me-nots bloomed in Santa Monica in memory of the Freedom Defenders

In every country, in every nation, there are days, hours and moments when its will, its unity and courage is tested. Lithuanians experienced such a moment 30 years ago on January 13th, 1991 in the aftermath of the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence. To mark the 30th anniversary of the Freedom Defenders’ Day in Lithuania, several thousand forget-me-not flowers bloomed on the sand of the Santa Monica beach, a powerful symbol of freedom and remembrance for that fateful day.

„With this visual installation we wanted to show, that even after three decades and living miles away from Lithuania, the memory of Freedom Defenders is alive. American Lithuanians, many of whom put great effort into regaining Lithuania’s freedom, remember why we are free and are grateful for the dedication and courage to all who defended freedom on that day, ” said acting Consul General Agnė Gurevičienė.

To everyone’s pleasant surprise, the famous Santa Monica’s Ferris Wheel also lit up as a beautiful forget-me-not flower on the eve of January 13th.
