This documentary film by director Agnė Marcinkevičūtė is an up-close portrait of esteemed Lithuanian pianist Mūza Rubackytė. In Lithuanian with English subtitles, the story moves freely between the musician’s homes in Paris, Geneva, Budapest and her native Vilnius. But her life wasn’t always this free—like many Baltic artists of the late Soviet generation, Mūza languished behind the Iron Curtain for years before she was able to fully realize her dreams. This is a film about an artist and her life—one that brings the viewer into the beautiful, yet personally taxing world of art music. As the artist opens up about what independence, love and passion mean to her, the costs of her talents also reveal themselves.
Mūza’s former student and local community member Dainius Vaičekonis will introduce the film. Support provided by the Cultural Arts Committee of the Lithuanian American Community, Inc. and Lietuvių Fondas – Lithuanian Foundation, Inc.
Doors open at 3:30. Screening begins promptly at 4:00pm. Please come early to enjoy refreshments. Cash bar and concessions will be available. No outside alcohol is permitted. Street parking available.
