An exhibition with obvious and secret symbolic meanings: two prominent artists in February (the month #2 of a year) on the 16th day present 16 paintings, 8 each, on 8 subjects: Emigration, 100 Years of Solitude, Wealth, Religion, Progress, Joy, Citizen, Freedom. Both artists are very different on most accounts: artistic style, age, life experience, citizenship… However Martynas Ivinskas and Gintaras Meškauskas are united by their provenance – Lithuania – and Lithuania celebrates its independence as a republic on February 16th. If that is not enough, this year Lithuania steps into its second century of freedom. This exhibition is an artistic enhancement of the major event.
Martynas Ivinskas lives in Vilnius, Lithuania and Los Angeles, California.
Gintaras Meškauskas resides in Palm Springs, California.
