Jonas Kulikauskas is an interdisciplinary artist inspired by his Lithuanian heritage, family, and faith. One outcome of his Fulbright journey to Lithuania in 2021 is the present exhibit I Often Forget— a photographic exploration of the fragile layers of time in everyday spaces. In a time of rising anti-Semitism, he, using a World War II-era lens on an 8×10″ camera, captured the circadian life of what was once the Vilnius Ghetto. His installations illuminate histories, conflicts, resistance, survival, confusion, and trauma relating to the Holocaust, ethnic nationalism, and cultural desecration. The exhibition, I Often Forget by Jonas Kulikauskas, compels us to question and reflect on the human condition.
I Often Forget is partially funded by the Fulbright Program and the Puffin Foundation. Contributors include Dr. Jon Seligman (Archeologist), Dr. Saulius Sužiedelis (Historian), the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History, and the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery, Cal State LA.
